In a strategic move that underscores its growing ambition in the AI productivity space, Grammarly has announced the acquisition of email startup Superhuman, just weeks after securing a $1 billion funding round. Known for revolutionizing grammar and communication tools, Grammarly is now setting its sights higher toward owning the future of intelligent workplace platforms. With Superhuman’s sleek, high-performance email experience now under its belt, Grammarly is poised to redefine how professionals work, write, and collaborate.

Once a coveted, invite-only app, Superhuman was valued at $825 million in 2021 and has since grown into a powerful product with $35 million in annual revenue. Its minimalist design, AI-enabled shortcuts, and fanatical user base have made it a standout in an otherwise saturated email landscape. This acquisition is not just about adding another tool it’s about building a seamlessly integrated, AI-first productivity suite that matches how modern professionals work across contexts, platforms, and time zones.

Shishir Mehrotra, CEO of Grammarly, emphasized the strategic alignment: “Email continues to be the dominant communication tool for the world. Professionals spend something like three hours a day in their inboxes. It’s by far the most used work app, foundational to any productivity suite.” With this move, Grammarly clearly intends to expand beyond grammar and writing assistance, evolving into a platform that powers every layer of professional communication from drafting to delivery to decision-making.

Importantly, the Superhuman team, brand, and product will continue to operate independently, with founder Rahul Vohra remaining a key force behind its ongoing development. As Mehrotra noted, “It’s a very well-used product by tens of thousands of people, and we want to see them continue to make progress.”

This acquisition represents a convergence of two forces deeply rooted in productivity, user experience, and AI-driven innovation. As Grammarly sharpens its edge and scales its vision, the future of work just got a whole lot faster and smarter. From inbox to insight Grammarly’s next chapter is about more than words. It’s about changing the way we work.
