In a move that marks a defining moment for JioStar’s sports vertical, the company has appointed Ishan Chatterjee as Chief Executive of its sports business, with responsibility spanning both TV and digital platforms. His elevation comes after Sanjog Gupta’s departure to lead the ICC as CEO, effective July 7, 2025, setting the stage for a seamless leadership transition at one of India’s most influential sports broadcasters.

Chatterjee, who joined JioStar in 2024, quickly established himself as a pivotal force in sports monetisation and strategy, serving as Chief Business Officer – Sports Revenue, SMB, and Creator Monetisation. His role during the recently concluded 18th season of the IPL was particularly significant, where he successfully steered revenue efforts for JioHotstar, reinforcing the platform’s position at the heart of India’s digital sports experience.

The appointment was confirmed by Uday Shankar in an internal email, where he praised Chatterjee’s “stellar role” and expressed confidence in his ability to “continue to add his magic.” Reporting to Kiran and working closely with Shankar on key strategic initiatives, Chatterjee will be tasked with not only shaping the next phase of JioStar’s sports journey but also redefining how fans connect with the game in an era of digital acceleration.

With his proven track record, vision, and ability to deliver impact at scale, Ishan Chatterjee now stands at the helm of a business that is not just about broadcasting sports but about transforming the way it is experienced across India and beyond. His appointment signals JioStar’s commitment to building a future where innovation, accessibility, and passion for sports converge, ensuring that the magic of the game reaches every fan, everywhere.
