OpenAI has announced one year of free access to ChatGPT Go for users in India, marking a major milestone as the company deepens its engagement with one of its fastest-growing markets. The announcement coincides with OpenAI’s first DevDay Exchange in Bengaluru, reflecting India’s growing significance in the global hashtag#AI ecosystem.

The ChatGPT Go plan gives users access to GPT-5, faster response times, and image-generation capabilities, previously limited to premium subscribers. The initiative is designed to expand AI accessibility across India’s developer and startup communities, fostering local innovation and practical adoption of generative AI in education, business, and digital creativity.

OpenAI said the decision underscores its commitment to making frontier AI tools inclusive and affordable for emerging markets like India, where adoption of ChatGPT has more than tripled year-over-year. The launch of ChatGPT Go in India is also part of a broader push that includes OpenAI Academy India, aimed at upskilling students, entrepreneurs, and professionals in ethical AI development and deployment.

By combining accessibility with community-driven innovation, OpenAI is positioning India as a core hub for global AI experimentation and leadership, signaling a long-term strategic bet on the country’s talent, tech ecosystem, and digital economy.
