Razorpay Builds AI Payment Agents Using Anthropic’s Claude

Share

Razorpay has introduced a new set of AI-powered agents built using the Claude SDK from Anthropic, designed to automate several critical processes across digital commerce and payments. The system aims to help businesses streamline operations by handling tasks that traditionally require manual monitoring and intervention.

The AI agents can automate workflows such as recovering abandoned carts, retrying failed subscription payments, resolving payment disputes, and forecasting cash flows. By analysing transaction data and customer behaviour in real time, these agents can trigger automated responses that improve both operational efficiency and customer experience.

The platform also integrates with widely used commerce and logistics tools including Shopify and Shiprocket, as well as communication platforms like WhatsApp. This integration enables businesses to manage payment recovery, notifications, and customer communication seamlessly across multiple touchpoints.

Razorpay has already begun AI-led commerce pilots with several major companies, including Zomato, Swiggy, PVRINOX Pictures, and Vodafone Idea Limited. These pilot programs aim to test how autonomous AI agents can improve payment recovery rates, automate financial insights, and optimise transaction management in high-volume digital ecosystems.

Industry leaders are also closely observing the development of such systems. Insights from Irina Ghose and National Payments Corporation of India’s Sohini Rajola highlight how agentic AI could transform financial infrastructure by making payments more intelligent, predictive, and automated.

As digital commerce grows rapidly, companies are looking for ways to reduce operational complexity while improving payment success rates and customer engagement. AI-driven automation could play a key role in achieving that balance.

Bottom line: Razorpay’s AI agent initiative signals a shift toward autonomous financial operations, raising the question of whether agentic AI will become the next major evolution in digital payments.
