WeRide and Uber launch driverless robotaxis in Dubai, expand AV rollout.

Share

Uber has launched fully driverless rides in Dubai, marking a major milestone in real-world autonomous vehicle (AV) adoption. The rollout has begun in Umm Suqeim and Jumeirah, with plans to scale robotaxi deployment across the region.

The expansion is part of a broader autonomous mobility push, with 1,200+ robotaxis planned across the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia. Meanwhile, WeRide is also expanding its autonomous mobility partnership with Grab in Singapore, signalling rapid global momentum in autonomous transport.

The development shows how autonomous vehicles are moving from pilot projects to real-world scale, supported by improvements in AI, sensors, mapping, and regulatory frameworks. Cities in the Middle East and Southeast Asia are emerging as early adopters of robotaxi ecosystems, supported by government-led smart mobility initiatives.

Autonomous vehicles are transitioning from testing to commercial deployment at scale.

Bottom line: Uber’s driverless launch in Dubai signals that robotaxis are entering the scale phase, not just pilots, accelerating the future of autonomous mobility.
