Africa’s digital transformation is accelerating, and a major new partnership is set to push it forward. Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) has signed a strategic MoU with SYBYL and iXAfrica Data Centres to build an AI-ready sovereign cloud infrastructure in Kenya. This collaboration marks a powerful step in strengthening the continent’s digital sovereignty, supporting data compliance, and unlocking new opportunities for innovation and employment.
As nations across Africa push for tighter control over their digital ecosystems, the demand for secure, localised cloud services has surged. This new sovereign cloud initiative will ensure that critical data remains within African borders, supporting both regulatory requirements and national digital independence.
Speaking about the partnership, Satishchandra Doreswamy, Vice President & Head of the Cloud Unit Growth Markets at Tata Consultancy Services, highlighted the significance of building a cloud framework tailored for Africa’s needs. He noted that TCS is delivering future-ready, AI-driven cloud infrastructure designed to meet the highest standards of privacy, security, and compliance. According to him, the new sovereign cloud will enable both countries and enterprises to safeguard their digital assets while accelerating modern digital business models.
Echoing this vision, Snehar Shah, CEO of iXAfrica Data Centres, emphasized that data sovereignty is the foundation of Africa’s digital future. By hosting this infrastructure within iXAfrica’s advanced and AI-ready data centre campus, the collaboration ensures that African data stays in Africa secure, sustainable, and ready to fuel next-generation innovation.
This partnership arrives at a time when governments, enterprises, and emerging startups across the continent are embracing cloud technologies to drive economic expansion. The introduction of a sovereign, AI-powered cloud in Kenya strengthens local digital capability while creating jobs, enabling compliance, and empowering regional innovation hubs.
As Africa moves rapidly toward a more connected and tech-driven future, the TCS–SYBYL–iXAfrica alliance stands out as a milestone moment setting the stage for a resilient, intelligent, and sovereign digital ecosystem built for long-term growth.
