Ericsson has strengthened its commitment to India’s growing tech ecosystem with the launch of a dedicated RAN (Radio Access Network) software R&D centre in Bengaluru. The new facility will play a pivotal role in advancing 5G and 5G Advanced capabilities, further integrating India into Ericsson’s global innovation network.

As global demand for high-performance networks accelerates, Ericsson is scaling its research expertise to enhance next-generation connectivity. The Bengaluru R&D unit will focus on building advanced software features for 5G networks, enabling faster, more resilient, and more energy-efficient mobile experiences. This move reinforces India’s position as a key engineering and technology hub in the company’s worldwide operations.

The centre will collaborate closely with Ericsson’s R&D teams across Sweden, the U.S., and other markets, ensuring seamless integration of innovations developed in India into global product roadmaps. Bengaluru’s deep talent pool in telecom engineering, software development, and AI-driven network optimisation makes it an ideal location for this strategic expansion.

Highlighting the importance of this milestone, Nitin Bansal, MD of Ericsson India and Head of Networking Solutions (South East Asia, Oceania & India), said, “Setting up the R&D Center in India for RAN software development represents a significant step forward towards strengthening our R&D operations in India.” His statement underscores the company’s long-term commitment to investing in local capabilities and accelerating the country’s role in 5G technology leadership.

With India rapidly rolling out 5G nationwide and gearing up for 5G Advanced innovations, Ericsson’s new R&D facility arrives at a crucial time. The centre is expected to drive breakthroughs in software performance, spectral efficiency, network automation, and energy management technologies essential for powering future-ready telecom networks.

By establishing this specialised RAN software hub, Ericsson not only deepens its roots in India but also positions the country as a strategic contributor to the global evolution of next-gen wireless communication.
