Zeno has raised $25M in Series A funding to accelerate production of its Emara electric motorbike and expand its battery-swap infrastructure across East Africa.

The round was led by Congruent Ventures, with participation from Active Impact and Lowercarbon Capital, alongside debt financing from Camber Road and Trifecta Capital.

Founded by Michael Spencer, Zeno has already deployed 800+ electric motorbikes and built 150+ charging and swap stations across four East African countries, supporting last-mile mobility for commercial riders and urban logistics networks.

The investment highlights rising investor confidence in battery swapping EV infrastructure as a solution to Africa’s fragmented charging ecosystem and high fuel dependency.

Bottom line: Battery swappable EVs are emerging as the fastest path to electrifying high-utilization mobility markets in emerging economies.
