Zepto Cafe halts operations in 44 stores until Q2

Share

In an era defined by convenience and speed, Zepto Cafe’s latest move may seem counterintuitive at first glance temporarily halting operations in 44 dark stores across Delhi NCR, Agra, and Amritsar. But look closer, and it becomes clear: this is not a retreat it’s a strategic recalibration. With demand for hot food delivery surging and consumer expectations evolving rapidly, Zepto is taking a bold bet to future-proof its supply chain and scale more sustainably.

The decision comes at a time when Zepto Cafe is already fulfilling 100,000+ orders per day, inching toward an impressive $100 million annualised GMV, a feat that underscores the startup’s growing dominance in the quick commerce and food delivery space. The current pause, which will last until Q2 (July–September), is a calculated move to revamp backend operations, streamline logistics, and ensure that rising demand doesn’t come at the cost of service quality or customer satisfaction.

CEO Aadit Palicha has consistently positioned Zepto as a challenger brand one that doesn’t shy away from disruption, even if it means short-term operational shake-ups. In line with this philosophy, staff impacted by the temporary closures were given early notice and offered opportunities to relocate within the network, a signal of the company’s people-first culture even during transition.

With 750 Zepto Cafes still running nationwide, this moment marks not a contraction, but the quiet groundwork for expansion. As Zepto sets its sights on platforms like Zomato and Swiggy, it’s building a blueprint that’s rooted in efficiency, responsiveness, and customer delight.

In the high-stakes race of hot food delivery, speed is important but scalability is essential. Zepto’s strategic pause reflects a deeper vision: to not just grow fast, but to grow right.
