In a historic move for the Indian automotive industry, Tarun Garg has been appointed the first Indian Managing Director & CEO of Hyundai Motor Company India (HMIL). The leadership transition will take effect on January 1, 2026, as the current MD, Unsoo Kim, returns to Hyundai Motor Company in South Korea, marking a new chapter in the company’s nearly three-decade presence in India.
José Muñoz, President & CEO of Hyundai Motor Company, highlighted Garg’s appointment as a defining milestone for HMIL. “Tarun is a transformative leader with a progressive vision and deep understanding of the Indian market. Under his guidance as COO, HMIL achieved record sales for three consecutive years, record-breaking profits, and successfully completed India’s largest IPO in 2024,” Muñoz said.
Unsoo Kim, Managing Director, praised Garg’s visionary thinking and unwavering commitment. “Having worked closely with Tarun, I have seen first-hand his strategic foresight and dedication, which have been pivotal in driving HMIL’s growth.
